WSW: ‘Momentum’ Helps Ex-Offenders, Others With Barriers, Find Jobs

There’s a grassroots group in Kalamazoo’s Edison Neighborhood gaining national attention for its success finding employment for harder-to-place job seekers, like ex-offenders, those with disabilities and single mothers re-entering the workforce. Momentum Urban Employment Initiative was founded four years ago this October. Ninety-three percent of its participants get full-time jobs, officials say. read more

WMU launches supply chain academies in new tech center

The WMU Bronco Force team will support the Urban Alliance initiative by providing the design, layout and operation of the warehouse and related logistics activities. The warehouse as classroom: New supply chain academies target entry-level employees

Urban Alliance announces the opening of a technical center

To date, Momentum has run six similarly developed training academies in partnership with Kalamazoo Valley Community College. This will be the first Collaboration with WMU. Nonprofit opening technical training center

The Kalamazoo-based Urban Alliance will open the Urban Alliance Technical Training Center as a vehicle for accelerated employment training for inner city residents in the skilled trades and technical fields. The new campus is scheduled to open in late fall and will be located at 400 Island Drive, Parchment. read more
