Hands On Technical Training

Urban Alliance Technical Center

The Urban Alliance Technical Center (UATC) was created in July of 2017 in an effort to continue and grow the technical education and training of graduates of the Momentum Urban Employment Initiative. Technical training academies have been provided for Momentum graduates in partnership with Kalamazoo Valley Community College (KVCC) since 2015 and the launching of the UATC has allowed for enhancement and expansion of the training being offered. The UATC is housed in a facility owned by LC Howard Inc. at 400 Island Avenue in Parchment, Michigan and provides 18,000 square feet of classrooms and offices as well as an additional 8,000 square feet of hands on training environments including warehouse, shipping docks, a quality lab, and production areas.

Part of the uniqueness of the UATC is the partnership between higher education, nonprofit, and local businesses in the training and equipping of trainees. The UATC is becoming an asset to the larger community, offering technical and vocational training to marginalized groups who normally do not have access to such opportunities. The continued goal of the UATC is to provide technical training at the highest level of excellence for our Momentum graduates and to expand that mission to other marginalized groups within the greater Kalamazoo area, benefiting the trainees, businesses, and the economy. In addition, the UATC is creating space for additional partnerships that allow us to expand our impact. Most recently, the UATC has become a host site for Kalamazoo Adult Education ESL and GED courses.
